QA Team Lead

SoftCo Ireland
Full-time
Permanent employee

About us

SoftCo is an AI-native Procure-to-Pay (P2P) and Accounts Payable (AP) automation company built for complex organisations. In a market full of rigid templates and “plug-and-play” promises, our approach is different. We tailor automation around the organisation, not the organisation around the software.

For over 35 years, we’ve helped finance teams move from reactive, manual processes to controlled, scalable and strategic P2P operations. Our AI-native platform strengthens accuracy, visibility and insight, but it’s our delivery expertise that ensures it works in the real world.

Our success at a glance:

  • 1M+ users worldwide

  • Trusted by organisations including Volkswagen, Patagonia, Primark, Logitech and all 80 departments of the Finnish Government

  • Global reach with offices in the US, Finland, UK, Kosovo and Ireland

  • A reputation for owning where precision engineering meets long-term partnership

Your role

We are looking for an experienced QA Team Lead who can step into a live product environment, lead a small distributed team from day one, shape our Quality Engineering (QE) strategy and drive quality across our established SaaS platform and emerging AI capabilities.

Working as part of the Engineering leadership team, you will be responsible for defining and evolving our quality strategy, ensuring quality considerations are embedded throughout the software development lifecycle. You will bring a quality-focused perspective to planning, delivery, and technical decision-making.

This is a hands-on leadership role. You will support and develop the QA team, establish consistent quality practices, improve testing effectiveness and automation, and provide clear visibility of quality risks across the organisation.

Your responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop a distributed team of Quality Automation Engineers, creating a high-performing culture focused on quality, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Set priorities, manage performance, provide regular feedback, and support individual development and career growth.
  • Own and evolve the QE strategy across new and existing products, integrations, enhancements, and emerging AI capabilities.
  • Define and track quality metrics to measure testing effectiveness, product quality, and release confidence.
  • Drive a quality-first culture across Engineering by promoting best practices in testing and automation.
  • Define and implement quality-focused processes across Product and Engineering that ensure requirements, acceptance criteria, and testability are reviewed and validated early in the development lifecycle.
  • Establish quality gates and release readiness criteria that support predictable, high-quality product delivery.
  • Assess current test coverage and drive initiatives to expand coverage across critical business and customer workflows.
  • Balance automated, exploratory, and manual testing approaches to maximise effectiveness and quality outcomes.
  • Evaluate and adopt AI-assisted testing capabilities where they provide measurable value, ensuring appropriate validation and oversight of results.
  • Help define how quality is assessed for AI functionality as SoftCo continues to expand its AI offerings.
  • Use customer feedback, production incidents, and defect trends to identify quality gaps and drive improvements.

What success looks like

You will quickly build an understanding of the team, the product and current delivery commitments. You will establish a clear view of the most important quality risks, take ownership of the QE strategy and make practical improvements to our processes.   You will lead initiatives to define how AI-driven functionality is evaluated and identify opportunities to responsibly adopt AI within testing practices.

Working at SoftCo

You will join a collaborative Product and Engineering organisation working on software that customers rely on for essential finance processes. Our structure gives you real ownership and direct exposure to senior leadership, with progression based on capability rather than hierarchy.

Your profile

  • Experience leading, managing  and developing a QA team within a SaaS environment, including coaching engineers and managing performance.
  • Experience defining and implementing quality strategies that improve product quality and delivery outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of manual, automated, API, integration and end-to-end testing, with hands-on test automation experience using tools including Microsoft Playwright, Rest-Assured, JUnit5, Allure Reporting and Maven.
  • Experience working with CI/CD platforms, including Azure DevOps, and in cloud-based environments, preferably AWS.
  • Experience testing business-critical software where reliability, accuracy, auditability, and customer-specific workflows are essential.
  • Experience working across distributed teams, building cross-functional relationships and influencing Product and Engineering colleagues through clear communication, evidence and collaboration.
  • A genuine interest in how AI is changing software delivery and testing and exposure to testing AI-enabled functionality, agentic workflows, or systems that incorporate LLM-based capabilities.
  • Experience with finance software, accounts payable, procurement processes, or ERP integrations would be advantageous.

What We Offer

  • Competitive remuneration and performance-based bonus

  • Company-paid health insurance, pension and life assurance

  • Hybrid Working Model (3 days per week in office following onboarding period)

  • On-site gym with company-funded fitness classes (Dublin office)
